FAQs

  • Great question! At Young Life, your child’s safety is our top priority. That’s why every one of our volunteers undergoes a rigorous screening and training program.

You can read about our onboarding process here.

Every Parkland Young Life leader has provided a criminal record check (with vulnerable sector check), provided references who have been contacted, had a meet-and-greet/interview with the area director, and gone through new leader training and mental health first aid. Before a leader is allowed to drive a youth, they must provide a clean driving abstract and complete a driver’s questionnaire.

  • You can find full descriptions of our leaders on our About page!

  • Club is the name of the regular meetings hosted by Young Life volunteer leaders and staff for their teen-aged friends.

These meetings are attended by teens from junior and senior high schools and include music, humour, and a talk about the Christian faith. Club happens in the school gym, in the basement of a house, outside, in community halls, or many other spaces that ensure teens feel safe, welcome, and are having fun.

  • Young Life provides fun, connection, community, and mentorship for any and all teens within the community!

The community we seek to serve includes people of all socio-economic, faith, and ethnic backgrounds. As we continue to grow, our motivation remains the same: to care for youth in our community and earn the right to share God’s love.

We are a faith-based organization, but EVERYONE is welcome regardless of your beliefs, background, or circumstances.

What does club look like?

Club is the name of the regular meetings hosted by Young Life volunteer leaders and staff for their teen-aged friends. It is launched by the relationships they have built through contact work. These meetings are attended by teens from junior and senior high schools and includes music, humour and a talk about the Christian faith.

Sometimes club looks like a games night in a local school gym. Sometimes it looks like “missing persons” at the West Edmonton Mall (where our youth move in groups around the mall to locate the leaders who are in disguise throughout the space). Sometimes club might be a birthday night, where we host one big birthday party where we celebrate everyone who has had a birthday in the last 365 days, and all the Young Life youth invite their friends to join!

But every time club is a safe place where pre-teens and teens can be themselves and be a part of something greater than themselves.

Young Life is a Christian mission loving teens in their world and encouraging them to know Jesus Christ.

Although we are a faith-based organization, everyone is welcome regardless of beliefs, background, or circumstances.
